Respect is key
Abu Nomad Tarek is the Iman of the Brantford Mosque, and has been working as a teacher, Chaplain, educator and consultant in Canada for over 10 years in different religious and educational institutions. In 2011, he was nominated for "Strong Role Model – Peacemaker Award" for his outstanding work for different communities.
Tarek sat down with us to discuss his views on cultural appropriation, specifically regarding religious clothing. The Brantford Mosque is open to all religious groups, which leads to an openness to wearing clothing from all cultures as long as it is not done in a way that is meant to offend people.

Tarek hopes through sharing culture that a more open and accepting environment will result to help bring people together. This open idea to the sharing of culture is not unique to only Tarek.
